A NEW Home Bargains store which cost £4million will open in East Lancashire today.
The store at The Peel Centre on Whitebirk Drive, which has created nearly 100 jobs, opens at 8am.
Store bosses say they are employing a team of 99 people including a couple of team members who will be transferring.
The new store will join over 500 outlets across the UK.
Jordan Gillman, store manager, said: “It’s a huge honour to be opening our new Peel Centre store this weekend and something that I’m exceptionally proud of.
“I started my Home Bargains journey back in January 2020 as a store manager at our Burnley Retail Park site, having worked in the retail sector for a decade. However, helping to launch the new Hyndburn store will be an accomplishment I’ll cherish for the rest of my career.”
There is an on-site café serving hot and cold refreshments to customers, and its own bakery, serving a delicious range of fresh bread, pastries and cakes that will be baked in-store daily.
Store bosses will also be donating £2,000 to local charity Milly’s Smiles, which is a children’s cancer charity based in Great Harwood.
The charity was set up in November 2015 in memory of Milly Walmsley who sadly passed away after being treated for Acute Myeloid Leukaemia at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.
Lorraine Hargreaves, the charity’s founder, said: “Milly’s Smiles feel really privileged to have been chosen as the charity to receive a wonderful donation of £2,000. This money will allow us to continue supporting families going through one of the worst times of their lives.”
