RESIDENTS in Burnley are advised to check their waste collection arrangements over the New Year.

With New Year's Eve and New Year's Day falling on a Monday and Tuesday this year, every household in the borough will see changes to the days their recycling and rubbish collections over the holiday period.

Burnley Council has sent a waste collection leaflet to every home which includes a calendar of collection dates for the coming 12 months, including the festive season, and residents are being encouraged to check it to see when they should be putting their waste out for collection.

Sarah Schofield, head of the council's Streetscene unit, said: "The collection arrangements are being changed due to Christmas and New Year but we have worked with our contractor Veolia to ensure the service to the public continues and any disruption is kept to a minimum.

"It means that some collections will be done on a Saturday, or either a day before or day after the usual collection day."

Arrangements will be back to normal from Monday, January 7 2008.
