A PEDESTRIAN is fighting for his life after being struck by a car as he crossed the road.
The 49-year-old, who has not been named by police, was crossing Whalley Old Road, Blackburn when he was hit by a Vauxhall Astra.
Police said the motorist was travelling towards Blackburn Town Centre at 8.03pm last night when the accident happened.
Officers said the driver contacted paramedics.
The pedestrian to Royal Blackburn Hospital after suffering serious head injuries.
He was said to be in a critical but stable condition.
Police said his family had been informed and were at his bedside.
The road was closed for two hours while an accident investigation was carried out by police.
Inspector Graham Ashcroft said: "Police were at the scene for around two hours conducting an accident investigation.
"It is not known at this stage what happened as we have not been able to speak to the pedestrian.
"The driver has not been arrested. Our investigations are ongoing.
"I would urge anybody who was in the area at the time and saw what happened to contact the police to assist our investigations."
