A MAN made a dramatic bid to escape from the secure dock at Blackburn Magistrates Court today.
Wayne Knights, who had been complaining of a bad back throughout his hearing, suddenly climbed onto a wooden ledge and then scaled the seven-foot glass security wall.
He got one leg over the top before two female members of the security staff, who had escorted Knights into the dock in court two, managed to grab his other leg.
The security guards managed to hang on to Knights until colleagues came up from the cells and two police officers and court security came to their assistance.
At that point Knights said he was going to come down.
Knights, 42, of Greenhurst Close, Blackburn, pleaded not guilty to two charges of assault.
When Deputy District Judge Jane Hamilton said she was remanding him in custody Knights said he wanted to change his pleas to guilty.
The judge refused to allow the change “for convenience” and at the point Knights made his escape bid.
He was remanded in custody until May 6.
