Driving instructors have said they do not think that 10 days to prepare for a test is enough for people who were not test ready before lockdown.

Tests have resumed today (April 22), with some learners expected to get back up to test standard after lessons only resumed on April 12.

Instructors said this could be very daunting for some pupils if they have not access to a family car, meaning they may have been unable to sit behind the steering wheel for 14 weeks.

Acorn Driving School in Blackburn doesn't have any pupils who are taking their test in April but has a number of pupils sitting a test in May.

Owner Raja Iqbal said: "If they were test standard before the lockdown, yes I think 10 days is more than enough.

"For anyone who was intermediate level I would not think 10 days is enough."

Zaff Hussain who runs Auto Lessons, teaches in Blackburn, Burnley and Preston.

He has had critical workers able to continue learning with him who have their tests booked in soon but he said that 10 days is not sufficient for people to get to test standard.

Zaff said: "I don't think 10 days is enough for people.

"I have some people who are critical workers taking their test so they have been able to learn before but I think people need at least 4 weeks."

Last year in Blackburn with Darwen, 57 per cent of tests were cancelled between March and December, with 2,778 tests were cancelled, most of which due to the pandemic, while in the same time period, 2,025 took their test, with just 982 of those having passed the test.
