A MAN went on a wrecking spree after a row with his partner who is the landlady of a Blackburn pub.

Blackburn magistrates heard Leigh Mark Jarvis picked up a brush and used it to smash bottles and glasses in The Farthings pub.

The court heard Jarvis worked his way along the bar smashing everything he could.

The initial compensation claim was for several thousand pounds but in a second statement the victim, Janine Walker, said Jarvis had already paid her £1,000 and she had been able to replace all the items that were damaged.

Jarvis, 35, of Side Beet Lane, Rishton, pleaded guilty to criminal damage. He was fined £180 with £85 costs and £34 victim surcharge.

Gareth Hughes, prosecuting, said the couple had been out for a meal before returning to The Farthings.

"There was an argument and he went to the living quarters before returning with a brush," said Mr Hughes. "He worked his way along the bar smashing bottles and glasses and anything else that he could."

Gareth Price, defending, said the matter was now seven months old and there had been no repeat behaviour.

"He continues to work in the pub and is still in a relationship with Miss Walker," said Mr Price.

"While they were out for a meal she was involved in text conversations he believed to be with other men and this led to an argument.

"For want of a better description he has had a tantrum."
