A council has pledged to plant one oak tree for every 5,000 people who take the Covid vaccine.
Bosses at Hyndburn Borough Council said they would plant one tree in a local park for every 5,000 residents who completed their vaccination course in 2021.
As part of the Community Champions Initiative, Hyndburn Council are working closely with local NHS services to help with vaccination uptake and deliver various Covid-19 information initiatives and campaigns.
Hyndburn GP and clinical director of Hyndburn central, Dr Fiona Ford, said: “This is a wonderful way to recognise all those who are saying yes to their vaccination and also very fitting to recognise our Acorn Vaccination Centre, with oak trees being planted as a lasting reminder and reflection.”
Further information about the initiative and the vaccination uptake in Hyndburn is displayed inside Accrington Market Hall for members of the public to see during opening hours.
Hyndburn community champions project lead, Lyndsey Sims, said: “We want to celebrate the fantastic work of everyone involved in the vaccination roll out in Hyndburn and also create a lasting reminder of the community efforts throughout the pandemic.
“Hyndburn Borough Council have pledged to plant an oak tree in a Hyndburn park for every 5,000 people who have their two doses of the vaccine.
"They will be planted this autumn by members of our community and be a great addition to Hyndburn’s outdoor spaces.”
