A PENSIONER died after suffering second-degree burns in a bath, an inquest heard.

But Maureen Revill, 62, who is thought to have suffered two strokes, which could have caused her to collapse, died within three days, Burnley Coroner's Court was told.

Her husband Colin Revill, of Colne Lane, Colne, said that his wife suffered from a variety of health problems before her death.

She had recovered from an operation to remove a large cyst from her ovaries but had mobility problems and was on medication for angina.

The inquest heard on April 21 Mrs Revill said she was going for a bath, while her husband went to carry out some odd jobs in the garage. When he went back into the house there was no sign of his wife and he went to the bathroom, where he saw her clinging to the taps.

Following a struggle he managed to help her out of the bath, the court heard, but she had suffered burns to her legs and buttocks. Mrs Revill was taken to Burnley Hospital but later transferred to a specialist burns unit at Wythenshawe Hospital.

Mr Revill told the inquest: "The last words she said, pointing at me, was don't worry it will be allright'."

A post mortem examination showed her death was the result of heart disease, linked to the second-degree burns she suffered following her collapse in the bath.

East Lancashire coroner Richard Taylor recorded a verdict of accidental death.
