COUNCIL chiefs in Burnley have been given a top award by a disabled campaign group for its efforts in improving people's lives.
The council's nomination for a North West Positive Action Award saw them succeed amid more than 100 nominations.
Razza Hussain, the council's equality officer, said: "Over the last year, Burnley Disabled People's Network has made a real impact to improve the lives of the borough's disabled people.
"From negotiations about free parking at the new St Peter's Centre, to improvements in accessing the services of other statutory agencies, this award is recognition of that progress.
"We are very proud of this award and are confident the network will go from strength to strength."
Coun Jeff Sumner, Burnley council's community engagement member, said: "People may not always see it, but there are so many dedicated staff at the council who put in so much effort to benefit Burnley people.
"All awards are important, but this in particular gives me great pride as it relates directly to the people of Burnley which means real, improvement for people across the borough."
