A MEMBER of staff at a snooker club has been fined after selling alcohol to a child in a police sting.
Officers sent an under-age child to see if they could get served in a variety of premises around Burnley.
And as we revealed, 10 out of 10 off licences passed, as well as Mortimers, Paradise and the White Lion.
The only one to fail was Riley's Snooker Club, Hargreaves Street.
Police community support officer Dave Johnson said: "The majority of shops and off-licences are clearly taking our advice on board and are to be commended for sticking to the law.
"However, it appears that some youths are still managing to get their hands on alcohol which is clearly a concern for us.
"Buying alcohol on behalf of an under-age drinker is a criminal offence and that is something we are keen to try to stamp out.
"We won't be stopping test purchasing operations - those will continue. However, alongside these, we will also be running a campaign aimed at making adult customers aware of their responsibilities. This will involve a poster campaign in shops.
"Adults need to realise that buying alcohol for youths is not acceptable. In doing so they are gambling with the health and welfare of that young person and probably contributing to anti-social behaviour problems, which are often fuelled by drink.
"They are also risking a hefty fine.
