A MIRACLE' baby who survived an horrific car crash is set to spend his first Christmas in a women's refuge following a family row.

Jade Hopson, 18, and her eight-month-old baby Bradley Ian Hopson are living in a women's refuge in Nelson after she fell out with her mum Lisa, of Cotton Court, Colne.

Jade, who is on the waiting list for a council house, said: "My mum is being really overprotective and she tries to take over like she's his mum."

Her mum said: "I am overprotective of Bradley and Jade because I thought I was going to lose them and because of everything they have been through."

Despite the troubles, Jade said she was still excited about Bradley's first Christmas, but said the refuge was no replacement for home. Jade said: "Even though everyone is nice it's not home. I'm not sure yet where we will spend Christmas Day."

When Jade was three months pregnant she was the passenger in a car which smashed near Greenodd, Cumbria.

Jade's best friend Ian Salton, 30, of Pendlemist View, died when the BMW driven by her boyfriend Benjamin Bird, 29, of Hargreaves Street, both Colne, crashed near a river on the A590.

It was feared Jade, who was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown through the front window, and her baby would not survive.

Jade suffered multiple spine fractures, collapsed lungs and throat damage.

The pair fought for life in the intensive care unit in Furness after being pulled from the car's wreckage.

On Christmas morning Jade said she is hoping to take her son to her dad's house in Huddersfield.

Then Bradley will spend Christmas Day afternoon and night with Lisa, step-grandfather Craig Johnson and their children.

Bird, who is Bradley's father, was sentenced to eight years jail in February after pleading guilty to drink-driving, driving without a licence and without insurance.
