A MAN has warned fellow cyclists to be on their guard after someone dangerously stretched green string across a path.
Richard Sealey, from Withnell, was riding with a friend in Roddlesworth Woods near Roddlesworth Reservoir between Tockholes and Abbey Village on Tuesday night when he spotted the string.
The 50-year-old said: “It was about 5.20pm as the light was going and I was coming round a corner going downhill but then I just saw some green string tightly wound between six trees.
“If it had been dark or I had been with my 11-year-old son Lucas the consequences would have potentially been serious facial injuries. Also they may have come off the bike at speed.
“I have seen people trying to stop cyclists using paths or areas including planks of wood or logs but I don’t know how someone would do this.
“What makes someone think this is a good idea?
“My first thought was disbelief as if my son was going flat out and it caught him at eye level, I don’t want to think about the consequences.
“Most cyclists respect other people such as walkers and nobody deserves this to happen to them.
“It will be one individual who has taken a dislike to cyclists so someone is going to get hurt.
“It is just mindless and I won’t be letting my son go in front of me again when cycling there.”
Mr Sealey has reported the incident to the police via the online platform.
