A few tips to make sure you're extra safe this winter.
When out of the house... *Use a time switch to turn a lamp on/off in the evening.
*Leave a light on in at least one room, not just the hallway.
*Leave a radio playing, preferably on a talk station.
*Close curtains so that people cannot see directly into your home.
*Even if you are only leaving the house for a short time, say, to pick children up from school, always lock all doors and windows.
When out alone during hours of darkness... *Always be a lert and look confident.
*Avoid shortcuts and dark, deserted areas.
*Walk in the centre of the pavement, facing traffic and away from bushes and buildings.
*Carry a torch.
*To avoid delay, have your keys in your hand when approaching you car or home.
*Get yourself a personal attack alarm and keep it to hand.
Finally on those frosty mornings, don't leave your car unattended outside your housewith the engine running or outside newsagents while you pop in to buy a paper. Don't be a target for an opportunist car thief.
