A MAN whose car crashed off the Grane Road and ended up in a field was later found to be over the limit for cannabis.

Blackburn magistrates heard Fayaz Waka was taken to hospital with head and other injuries following the crash close to the Grey Mare pub.

Waka, 22, of Kirkland Close, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to drug driving, driving other than in accordance with a licence and without insurance. He was fined £200 with £85 costs and £34 victim surcharge and banned from driving for two years.

Samantha Hayward, prosecuting, said the road traffic accident happened at 8pm and when police arrived Waka and his passenger were still in the car which was in a field.

Waka was taken to hospital and a sample of blood tested positive for cannabis.

"The offences are aggravated by the fact there was an accident and the defendant was carrying a passenger," said Mis Hayward.

Naima Hussain, defending, said her client suffered a serious head injury in the accident which she said was caused by a puddle on the road.

"He is very remorseful and ashamed," said Miss Hussain.

"He says the cannabis use was very casual and since this incident in July he hasn't touched it."
