AN 85-year-old British Legion standard has been repaired after a complaint about the state it was in.
The standard, which was the original flag used by the Darwen branch of the British Legion when it was founded in the 1920s, had started to deteriorate after decades of use in St Peter's Church.
The wording on the flag says simply British Legion' because the Royal Charter was not given until the Queen's silver jubilee in 1977.
Darwen branch chairman Bryan Thompson said: "I had a man complain about the state of the standard and he asked us to do something about it.
"So we laid it down and got a lady to put it in a net mesh to stop the pieces falling off it.
"I explained to the man how old the standard is and how many other churches have similar age-related problems and moths and so on."
