How many more times do I have to hear about "the TRUE meaning of Christmas" as the festive season progresses? Well let's set the record straight!
The true meaning of the celebration on December 25th is that it descends from pagan festivals first thought to have started in ancient Babylon and carried on by various other societies such as the Romans well before Christ was born.
Indeed, most scholars agree that Jesus was probably born in September and in recent times Christians decided to "hi-jack" December 25th to promote their religion as that was the day traditionally given over to feasting and merrymaking. Quite clever actually.
So those good people who celebrate "Christmas" but don't relate it to religion are simply doing what many communities have done throughout the world for thousands of years.
