The Californian alt-rockers' 2004 debut finally gets a UK release, and it was certainly worth waiting for.
Vocally and musically akin to The Smashing Pumpkins' earlier, better days, Silversun Pickups do draw on enough other influences to avoid the cough of "rip off"; The Jesus And Mary Chain and The Pixies both clearly had an effect on the quartet.
Layered, laid-back fuzziness infuses this EP with the benevolent spirit of the early 90s hippy rediscovery: Pikul demonstrates a shining disregard for mass-market appeal, and glows more brightly for it.
