A 32-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after a man was stabbed in Burnley.

Jonathan Bamber of Burnley was arrested at a house in Carlton Road in the town on Tuesday.

Police were called to the property just before 4pm where they found a 28-year-old man inside suffering from stab wounds.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Royal Blackburn Hospital to be treated for his injuries and his condition is described as stable.

Bamber is due to appear before Burnley magistrates tomorrow.

The terrace property where the incident occurred was sealed off yesterday. Scene of crime officers were seen entering the property as the search for forensic evidence got under way.

Neighbours were shocked to hear about the incident but many said they were out when it occurred.

One woman, who did not want to be identified, said: "I think it happened about 4pm. I didn't see anyone in the street. When I went out there was an ambulance and police there. The lad came out on a stretcher with an oxygen pipe and they left at about 4.30pm."

A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: "We got a call at 3.55pm to a property in Carlton Road. A male had been stabbed in the chest.

"He said he was attacked in the house. A 28-year-old was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital."
