PLANS to transform Colne's new town centre precinct from its current run-down state have been unveiled.
The proposals will see the Market Street area revived with high-quality landscaping and street lighting, communal seating areas, new-look shop canopies, plus extra short stay car parking for shoppers.
Plans for the redevelopment of the precinct, which is being funded by Boundary Mill and due to start in early January 2008, will be on display at the Market Hall.
Coun Sharon Davies, chair of the Colne Area Committee, said: "The redeveloped precinct will breathe new life into the town and will improve its look dramatically.
"New parking bays will be built right in front of the shops and will increase access to them for everyone.
"There will be new seating and plants as well as public art to help improve the image of the town."
Colne councillors negotiated the payment when planning permission was given for Boundary Mill's new store on Vivary Way, which is set to open in March 2008.
Under the scheme, Pendle Council will lease the whole area from the owner, allowing them to maintain it to a high standard.
The exhibition of the designs will run until the work is finished in Spring 2008.
As part of the exhibition, people will be able to suggest names for the new precinct.
Anyone wanting to take part in this year's competition should contact Paul Collins on 01282 661677.
Paul Collins, who is involved with Pendle's economic development, said: "The redevelopment of the precinct will cost £150,000.
"We are using the highest quality natural stone materials and, once completed, the town will have a fresh new look.
"The funding has come from planning permission on Vivary Way in Colne."
A 'best dressed shop front' competition is also taking place to find the shop with the best festive decorations in Colne.
The competition will be judged by the Mayor of Pendle, Coun Allan Buck.
