GRITTERS are out in force on Blackburn’s roads tonight as temperatures look set to plunge to as low as -6.5 degrees.
A yellow weather warning is in place for ice across Lancashire, meaning gritters are working overtime to ensure the roads are as safe as possible for motorists.
However Blackburn with Darwen Council expect a reprieve in the cold weather over the weekend – before icy temperatures return again next week.
Over the next 24 hours temperatures as low as -6.5 degrees could be recorded, with frost, ice and snow expected.
Gritting was to start at 4pm this afternoon (Wednesday) and run into the night.
