THERE was a little extra Christmas cheer for shoppers in Blackburn in 1966 when it was announced that part of the town’s new rooftop car park would be open.
The completed section - part of the new shopping centre development - would provide 150 parking spaces. Ultimately around 550 spaces would be available.
Motorists would use a new curved ramp off Victoria Street to get to the car park and charges would be 6d for up to two hours and 1d 6d for three. It would cost 4s for any time over three hours.
You could also use the car park at night for free although it would not be supervised.
