A "DANGEROUS" cobbled street in Colne which is a safety hazard for the elderly should be fixed by the county council, councillors said.
A petition signed by 35 residents who live in and around Spring Place was sent to Pendle council over concerns the uneven cobbles could be dangerous for residents of Norway House, a sheltered housing complex.
Protesters said that the setts, running along Spring Place, behind Albert Road, Colne, should by ripped up and replaced by a smoother surface.
The council agreed that the street, in a conservation area, was in a poor condition but that the competing issues of heritage and pedestrian safety versus costs meant a satisfactory resolution might not be achieved.
Coun David Clegg said the matter should be passed to the county council because it had taken over responsibility for highways. He said: "The county council have taken all the highways responsibility away from Pendle and for that reason we should pass this request to them because they are responsible and we should not be paying for this work.
"They take quite a lot of tax out of Colne and Pendle and it is time they out some back in."
