POLICE are cracking down on mini-moto troublemakers in Great Harwood.
Officers said that on one occasion a child was nearly knocked down and on another an elderly man was almost hit by rogue drivers.
They seized a mini-moto from a 16-year-old boy in Park Road, Great Harwood, who was then summonsed to Hyndburn Youth Court where he was fined.
He will also have three penalty points on any subsequent driving licence.
Community beat manager for Great Harwood PC Andy Sarchet said: "Anti-social use of vehicles has been impacting heavily on the quality of life for many residents and we simply will not tolerate this type of behaviour.
"Not only does the use of mini-motos cause a nuisance to members of the community, it can also be extremely dangerous to other road users and pedestrians."
The police have the power to warn offenders and in certain circumstances seize the vehicles involved. Offenders are also being reported for offences, in particular those relating to insurance and driving licences.
PC Sarchet added: "Many people fail to realise that anyone who rides a mini-moto on a public highway requires both insurance and an appropriate driving licence. I urge people to consider this, particularly in the run-up to Christmas. Anyone who is thinking of buying a mini-moto as a present should consider the implications.
"The message is clear; if you ride mini-motos then do so responsibly and make sure you have the relevant documentation."
