A SCHEME that gives respite to carers and people with learning disabilities has been praised after a surprise inspection.
Inspectors from the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) carried out the inspection of the respite care scheme, based at Bunkers Hill Close, and declared it to be "excellent".
Run by Blackburn with Darwen Council, the scheme provides short breaks for people so that their usual carers can have a break.
Coun David Foster, executive member for adult social care, said: "Surprise inspections show services as they really are, so it is great news that the short breaks service has done so well.
"The report is especially welcome as we are about to open a new building for the service in Mill Hill. The team will soon be working with better equipment and facilities, which promises an even better service for people."
In particular, the inspection highlighted: - The easy read information provided by guests.
- The opportunity for people to have a test drive' visit before deciding whether to use the service.
- People being able to continue doing regular activities while at the service.
- The way the service encourages people to comment.
