PENDLE Council has warned about private insulation companies which falsely claim to work with them.
Residents have been offered quotes for insulation by door-to-door salespeople who have failed to inform the householder of any potential grants or subsidies available to them.
They also falsely claim to be working with the council.
Lancashire Trading Councils have been made aware of the problem but because the companies are not acting illegally no action has been taken.
Heather Shaw, energy officer, said: "The companies working in this area are known to the council and have been known to target older residents.
"It is perfectly all right to get a quote, but it's best to check with the council, by calling me on 661026, before you sign up for any work - you could be missing out on a discount or grant.
