A man argued with his mum and her partner when he returned home after a drinking binge.

Blackburn magistrates heard that Ashley Donnelly went up to his bedroom and began smashing things up, eventually throwing something through the double glazed window.

The court heard that he then went outside and damaged the partner's van before going up the road and demanding that another man gave him his car keys.

Donnelly, 21, of Hazel Close, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to two charges of criminal damage and using threatening behaviour. He was ordered to do 40 hours unpaid work, made subject to community supervision for 18 months and ordered to pay £250 compensation.

Isla Chilton, prosecuting, said the neighbour had just pulled up in his car when Donnelly opened the door and asked for his car keys.

"At one stage the defendant reached into his back pocket and the driver was fearful he was going to produce a weapon," said Mrs Chilton.

When interviewed by police Donnelly said he had drunk through the night and taken some cocaine before going to the pub on Sunday afternoon.

Liz Parker, defending, said Donnelly and his mum's partner did not get on and there had been a row when he got home.

"This was all in drink and he is very apologetic about what happened," she added.
