TEN mums from Darwen who have successfully completed a course in breastfeeding attended a graduation ceremony at Earcroft Children's Centre.
The course, offered through the international "La Leche League" organisation, has involved learning about every aspect of breastfeeding advice, support and information.
The mums have learned about all sorts of topics such as positioning, attachment, latching on and the health benefits of breastfeeding to both baby and mother. Ann Jobling from the "La Leche League" was guest of honour at the celebration with mayor Coun Maureen McGarvey, and presented certificates.
Ann said: "The graduation ceremony marks their move on to becoming peer supporters, offering help and support to breastfeeding mums in Blackburn with Darwen."
The mothers will work in a voluntary capacity attending support groups at children's centres, ante-natal and post-natal drop-ins and parent craft groups.
They will also work as part of a team to staff the breastfeeding 24-hour helpline, which offers mums advice at any time.
Some members of the group were filmed during the course and will appear on the Department of Health's new informational DVD that will go out nationally to 66,000 expectant mums.
