A MOTORIST was taken to hospital after his car crashed into three parked vehicles and burst into flames.

The 30-year-old Rossendale man was driving his grey Volkswagen Passat down Haslingden Road in Rawtenstall at 2am today, when he lost control of the car.

He managed to get out of the Volkswagen before it caught fire.

Firefighters administered first aid to the driver until paramedics arrived.

He was taken to Fairfield General Hospital in Bury to be treated for injuries to his leg and head.

The road at the Tesco roundabout was closed for a short time while police recovered the vehicle, which was written off. The three parked cars were also left badly damaged.
