A man and a woman had to be taken to hospital following a late night crash involving three cars.
At around 9.30 on Wednesday evening, emergency services were called to the junction of Barrowford Road and Wheatley Lane Road in Fence.
Two fire engines from Nelson, a rapid response vehicle, three ambulances and the police assisted with the incident, in which four people were hurt.
One woman suffered knee and back injuries, and a man suffered a head injury - both were taken to hospital.
Another patient was also taken to hospital, with one other motorist treated at the roadside by paramedics.
A spokesperson for the police said: "We were called around 9.20pm on Wednesday to reports of a collision in Barrowford Road, Fence.
"A Skoda Octavia, BMW and Volkswagen Tiguan were reportedly involved.
"A woman suffered knee and back injuries, a man suffered a head injury and another motorist were treated by paramedics."
A road closure was put in place while fire crews worked to make the area safe.
A spokesperson for the fire service said: "Two fire engines from Nelson attended a road traffic collision on Barrowford Road in Fence, Burnley.
"The collision involved three vehicles.
"Fire crews used stabilisation equipment to extricate one casualty from their vehicle before the individual was conveyed to hospital by ambulance.
"Firefighters then worked make the scene safe. They were in attendance for approximately one hour."
According to the police, the road was fully reopened at around 12.30am on Thursday.
