A MAN was less than honest when he used the self-service checkout at a Tesco store.
Blackburn magistrates heard that David Wilson, who went into the store with £15 in his pocket, paid for goods worth £14.95 but loaded his trolley with another £42 worth.
Wilson, 24, of Hosier Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to theft.
He was given a conditional discharge for 12 months.
Rachel Adamson, defending, said Wilson had been having trouble with his benefits and did not have enough to do his shopping.
"He was tempted to take a little more than he could afford," said Miss Adamson.
