A thief who pinched copper piping from Tesco went "scrapping" to top up his benefits, a court was told.
Terence Ratcliffe, who had been subject to a community order at the time, admitted theft.
Ratcliffe, 40, of Granby Street, Burnley, was given a one-month curfew, between 10pm and 8am and must pay £30 costs.
