CRIME-fighting charity Crimestoppers has helped to detect more than 300 crimes in Lancashire, according to bosses.

Latest figures show that 301 crimes have been detected in the last seven months after information passed anonymously by members of the public.

In October alone, 54 crimes were detected thanks to calls from the public, a record for the county for the second month running.

The results put Lancashire among the top three performing Crimestoppers boards in the country in relation to the percentage of calls received leading to detections.

Chairman of Lancashire Crimestoppers Gail Porter said the figures showed an increasing awareness of the work of the charity and a rise in confidence that all calls are anonymous.

She said: "I would like to thank everyone that has contacted Crimestoppers for their help and support"

Mrs Porter also thanked the media for its support of the charity, after several arrests were made as a direct response to newspaper appeals.
