RESIDENTS will get the chance to see plans for a "greenway" along a former railway line on Monday.
The derelict former train line between Great Harwood and Burnley railway has been identified as a site for improvement under the REMADE in Lancashire land reclamation programme.
Plans for the area are going on display at Padiham Town Hall from Monday while members of the design team will also be on hand to explain their ideas to the public.
Guy Kenyon from the REMADE team said: "We hope to create a greenway along the length of the former railway through to Great Harwood with the Padiham section being the first phase of the project.
"Key features of the greenway include the creation of new access points, a multi-use path suitable for pedestrians, cyclists and horses, landscaping and tree planting with lighting of the path through the urban area.
"Within the Pendle Street and Russell Terrace area of Padiham we are looking at opening up the old railway to create a more formal parkland setting between the houses either side.
"We would like as many people as possible to come along to give us their views as the plans are still in draft form at this stage. We hope to start work in 2008, so the feedback we get now could help shape what finally appears."
At the exhibition there will also be the opportunity to find out more about the Sustrans Connect 2 Living Landmarks Lottery bid. The former railway and other routes in Padiham are part of the £50m bid by Sustrans that, if successful in the outcome of television vote, will attract £300,000 towards the improvement of cycling and walking routes in the area.
The Connect 2 project will appear on ITV at 11pm on Tuesday December 4.
REMADE is a £21 million county council run scheme to reclaim derelict sites across Lancashire. Funding for the initiative is provided by the Northwest Regional Development Agency.
Information about REMADE and the Padiham railway scheme is available on the website at www.lancashire.gov.uk/environment/remade. The plans and a comment form will also be available to view on the website from December 4.
The drop-in exhibition is on Monday December 3 at Padiham Town Hall, Burnley Road, Padiham between 4.00pm and 7.30pm.
