A 31-year-old man attacked his wife after she complained about him leaving some hair oil on the table, which one of the children had spilled.
Blackburn magistrates heard Shabir Ali Asghar slapped his wife eight or nine times before he was dragged off by his mum and sister.
But he struggled free from them, knocked his wife to the floor and punched her two or three times.
Asghar, of Walter Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to assault and resisting arrest.
He was made subject to community supervision for 18 months and ordered to pay £250 compensation to his wife and £43 costs.
Scott Ainge, prosecuting, said the incident had occurred in front of one of the couple's three children.
Asghar later told police he had been taking crack cocaine the night before and hadn't been feeling well.
Michael Blacklidge, defending, said Asghar accepted the allegations made by his wife and confirmed by his mother and sister.
"That is an important starting point and he has shown genuine remorse and contrition for his actions," said Mr Blacklidge.
