A WEIGHT restriction is to be imposed to allow a long-closed road bridge over a canal to be reopened.
Blackburn with Darwen Council regeneration boss Cllr Phil Riley has agreed to its restoration in April to allow a development to take place.
The bridge on Davies Road, which crosses the Leeds-Liverpool Canal near the Whitebirk Industrial Estate in Blackburn, has been closed for many years.
Now Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council is to exercise powers under the Road Traffic Regulation Act to prevent any vehicles with a maximum permissible laden weight which exceeds three tonnes using the bridge.
It will cover from a point 126 metres south east of the centreline of Blakewater Road/Whitebirk Drive for a distance of 19 metres in a south easterly direction, the part of Davies Road which crosses the canal.
The bridge has been barriered off due to fly tipping.
The council is planning to extend existing double yellow lines.
