A TALKING newspaper has appealed for volunteers to help run an audio magazine for blind people to keep them updated.

The magazine, produced as a supplement to Rossendale Talking Newspapers, needs volunteers to help produce it to keep blind people informed about what is going on in the Valley.

Released every three months, the magazine, which is self-funded, was started in September 1995 by Arthur Foster and Rita Marriott.

Arthur, 62, of Lacey Court, Haslindgen, has lived in the Valley his whole life and has been registered blind since he was a few months old.

Arthur, who has a little sight, said: "We do not receive any funding and the only thing provided for us are tapes.

"Ideally, we are looking for people to let us know in advance what is going on in Rossendale as the folk who use our service are not able to read it in the papers.

"At the moment we are looking for stuff around Christmas.

The magazine is sent out to more than 100 listeners in the Rossendale area, which includes old people's homes.

It includes interviews, what's on items and other articles.

Each issue of the audio magazine is 90 minutes long and is recorded by eight volunteers through equipment in Arthur's front room.

  • Anyone interested in helping should contact the magazine by writing to Arthur Foster, 1 Lacey Court, Bury Road, Haslingden, BB4 5UL or Lily Driver, 12 Park Avenue, Haslingden, BB4 6PP.
