A TEAM dedicated to reducing accidents has won its second national award in the space of two months.
The Health Service Journal awards attracted more than 1,000 entries from NHS organisations across the country The East Lancashire Primary Care Trust's accident prevention team scooped the top prize in the reducing health inequalities category.
The award was presented to project leader Julie Carman at a gala evening at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London.
Ms Carman said: "This project is just part of our determination to reduce health inequalities in the area."
The community health team's work includes visiting nursing homes, advising on how to prevent falls and organising safety measures in the homes of families with children under five years old.
The team's work, which initially targeted the Burnley and Pendle areas, was highlighted by the Healthcare Commission as having made a huge difference in helping to reduce attendances at Burnley General Hospital of children under five years old.
