PRINCE Charles had a packed itinerary when he came to Burnley in 2010, stopping off at five different locations in the town during a day-long visit.
Through his charities, the prince had developed a strong relationship with Burnley and he was in town to see how they were progressing. He started the day at Turf Moor, home of Burnley FC where he was presented with a personalised replica shirt with HRH on the back.
As he arrived, he was greeted by around 60 pupils from St Mary’s RC Primary School, waving home-made union flags.
The Prince’s Trust and Burnley FC had combined to form Get Started with Football, which aimed to motivate unemployed young people through the sport and the prince saw some of the work it does first-hand. While at Turf Moor he was given a presentation by young people who have participated in programmes run by the Prince’s Trust and Business in the Community.
From Turf Moor, it was off to the Burnley College and UCLan campus, where he met entrepreneurs who have been helped by the Prince’s Trust and spoke to students.
Charles was welcomed to Towneley Hall, his next stop, by music performed by pupils from nearby Unity College.
The Prince toured the hall’s Offshoots permaculture site, a walled garden which uses environmentally-friendly technologies.
He also spoke to Unity College and St Stephen’s CE Primary School pupils.
Next it was Cherry Fold Primary School, where he learnt about its business programme and met representatives of the East Lancashire Primary Care Trust before rounding off the day at at the Burnley Lane Action Group facility.
