A woman was taken to hospital with head and neck injuries after being thrown from a waltzers ride.

A joint investigation by the Health and Safety Executive and the police is now being carried out to determine how the accident happened, although police believe the woman was standing up on the ride before falling off and hitting the floor.

The incident took place on the waltzers ride on the South Pier Promenade in Blackpool on Tuesday evening.

A spokesperson for the police said: "We were called at around 6.50pm on Tuesday to South Pier Promenade, Blackpool, to reports of an industrial accident.

"We attended and found a woman, aged in her 20s, had come off the waltzers ride and suffered suspected head and neck injuries.

"She was taken to hospital for treatment.

"Thankfully her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

"The incident is now being investigated by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) with assistance from police."
