AN investigation has been launched after the death of a mother-of-three who died two weeks after being found unconscious.

Dawn Walker, from Bacup, was taken to Royal Preston Hospital after officers were called to an address in the town by a member of the public on June 25.

She was found to have a bleed on her brain and, despite treatment and care from doctors and nurses, died more than two weeks later on July 11.

A 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault after Ms Walker was originally taken to hospital. He was later bailed pending further inquiries.

Confirming on Friday afternoon that a post mortem examination had taken place and that enquiries were ongoing, a police spokesman said: “Officers are investigating the circumstances around Dawn’s death.

“We are aware of speculation on social media around the cause of Dawn’s death and we ask people to refrain from discussing this for the sake of Dawn’s family and friends. Our thoughts remain with them.”

Almost £9,000 has now been raised to help support her three children as they deal with her death and prepare for the funeral.

In tributes posted online, Dawn, 38, has been described as having the ability to ‘light up any room’ and as a selfless mother, friend and daughter.

Family friend Megan Whitehead, who has organised the fundraiser, said: “Many people know and love Dawn as she was one of a kind with a huge heart and her infectious personality, she could light up any room she entered.

“She touched too many people’s hearts to mention and a massive hole will be left from her cruel departure to her next chapter, heaven is so lucky.

“We want to give this angel the best send off to see her loved ones in heaven waiting for her that anyone could imagine, it’s the very least she deserves.

“Every little helps, Dawn deserves the best and in any way we can help would be amazing as nobody was expecting to have to be planning their mum’s funeral, let’s do this for Dawn and her loved ones, loved by many and will never ever be forgotten.”

Ms Walker’s daughter Nicole said: “We will keep everyone posted and involved as much as we can as we know how much Dawn was loved and how well known she was. Thank you to each and every person for all the support, we appreciate it greatly.”
