A councillor has hit out at fly-tippers, calling them 'parasites' after rubbish, including garden waste and what looks like old plasterboard was dumped on a main road in Burnley.
Councillor Neil Mottershead, who represents the Gannow Ward on Burnley Borough Council, said fly-tipping on Clifton Street and Accrington Road in the town was disgusting and was happening all too often.
After posting photos of the mess on Clifton Street on Facebook last week, he said the culprits returned to the scene of their crimes and cleared the rubbish away.
However, Cllr Mottershead said the behaviour was counter-intuitive, and even though one individual incident had been put right, fly-tipping was an increasingly common problem in Burnley that was blighting neighbourhoods and upsetting residents.
Speaking last week, he said: "This is not the first-time fly-tipping has taken place in the area.
"Unfortunately, whichever parasites did this thought it would be a good idea to make their rubbish someone else’s issue.
"People who do this sort of thing are thoughtless and only think about themselves instead of the wider community.
"I will continue to work with residents and council officers to investigate who dumped the rubbish because to be honest I find it absolutely disgusting.
"To dump your rubbish anywhere but a tip is wrong.
"Anyone who fly tips is acting illegally and the council has robust procedures to deter this selfish and dishonest activity."
Cllr Mottershead said he and a number of residents in the area had managed to identify the culprits responsible for some of the most recent fly-tipping, and had reported them to the council for them to be accordingly dealt with.
One resident, who did not wish to be named, said: " I've never seen anything like it.
"I was completely shocked when I saw this on Clifton Street, there is such a huge amount of rubbish.
"It's disgusting and shameful and I can't understand why anyone would do this."
