A DARWEN man whose pub quiz went viral during lockdown has had a surprise video call from his footballing hero.
Jay Flynn, who has recently broken the Guinness World Record for most viewers of a live-stream quiz (182,513), had a chat with former Tottenham Hotspur and England legend, Ledley King, when he called to congratulate him on his efforts during the coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking to Ledley, the Spurs fan said: “It started off as a joke for friends in my local area. I set up a Facebook event that was public by mistake and it went viral.”
Since March, Jay has become a global online sensation, reaching millions of households and raising more than £500,000 for charities via his 'Virtual Pub Quiz'.
And in addition to breaking the Guinness World Record, Jay has involved celebrities as guest hosts, and received an award from the Prime Minister.
Jay’s support of Spurs has also been displayed as he entertains the nation, with Ledley spotting his football scarf in the background during his first quiz.
Chatting about the 1991 FA Cup Final and watching Ledley lift the League Cup in 2008, he told the former captain: “I just want to keep going and keep supporting the charities. £500,000 is an incredible amount, but with the platform I’ve got I just want to keep moving it forward.”
