ELDERLY nursing home residents were thrilled by a traditional Scottish bagpipe-and-drums performance by two brothers.
Accrington’s Luke and Cailean Diamond, both in their 20s, performed in full Scottish regalia while standing outside Manor House Nursing Home in Chatburn, near Clitheroe in order to comply with social distancing regulations.
Songs included a range of Scottish standards which thrilled the residents.
Proprietor Janet Harrison said: “They were absolutely fantastic. They played all the traditional ones like Scotland the Brave and it was brilliant.”
She added: “Even for people confined to their bedrooms, they performed all round the building so everyone could see.”
The brothers were members of the Accrington Pipe Band as children and now perform on their own as a piper and drummer double act.
They have performed in Scotland and Canada and regularly perform at weddings and for Burns Night events.
The onset of lockdown has, of course, limited much of what the brothers can do, with most regular events suspended for the foreseeable future.
This has left Luke and Cailean with plenty of extra time on their hands which they have now devoted to free performances like the one at Manor House.
Mrs Harrison said: “We got wind that the lads were doing charity performances because with everything that’s been going on they’ve got a lot of free time.
“Obviously, we were happy to give a donation but other than that it was totally free.”
