A 31-year-old punched his mum in the face and then twisted her wrist until it "cracked" because she wouldn't go out and buy him more alcohol.

"In the sober light of day he is deeply ashamed of his behaviour," Jonathan Taylor, defending, told Blackburn magistrates.

Paul Procter, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to assaulting Gwendoline O'Rourke.

He was sent to prison for 90 days.

Eddie Harrison, prosecuting, said Procter was already drunk when he demanded his mum get him more alcohol.
