ONE of Lancashire's highest ranked police officers has slammed a nightclub for trying to entice people to visit it - going against social distancing and other government advice.

Lancashire's deputy chief constable, Terry Woods, highlighted Switch Nightclub in Preston about trying to attract customers on social media.

The club's Facebook post said: "Corona or no corona, we are partying this Saturday until Boris calls last orders.

"SKNT starts on Saturday and we know its a hard time for everyone so its 60p drinks before 12.

"And that's not all, we will give you free entry and free drinks."

The government has advised to avoid contact with someone who is displaying symptoms of coronavirus.

This includes large gatherings, and gatherings in smaller public spaces such as pubs, cinemas, restaurants, theatres, bars and clubs.

Posting on Twitter on Thursday evening, Dep Ch Con woods said: "Never singled out a business on social media before but today I make an exception.

"Whilst lots of us battle to protect the public from harm others aren’t getting it.

"They will be getting a visit tomorrow to explain the plain facts-but we can’t stop them."

A government spokesman said: "Avoid non-essential use of public transport, varying your travel times to avoid rush hour, when possible.

"Work from home, where possible. Your employer should support you to do this. Please refer to employer guidance for more information.

"Avoid large gatherings, and gatherings in smaller public spaces such as pubs, cinemas, restaurants, theatres, bars, clubs.

"Avoid gatherings with friends and family.

"Keep in touch using remote technology such as phone, internet, and social media."
