A HORTICULTURAL company reached new heights when its vertical planters took centre stage on a prime-time television show with Alan Titchmarsh.
Wonderwall Direct is run by Rick McKeever, from Buckshaw Village, and its living walls featured on ITV’s Love Your Garden.
Gardening guru Titchmarsh praised the eco-friendly planters as they helped him to create a garden in Birmingham for Kath, dubbed The Cake Lady.
Speaking on the show, Titchmarsh said: “This living wall has been built off-site using a frame to which the planters have been fixed.
“You don’t plant it as such you just put pots in the containers and there’s a lot of plants here.
“All you need is some water and it is ready for planting.”
Titchmarsh described how the revolutionary system is like champagne flutes, with the water going from one plant to ones below.
“The water trickles down from the top making a reservoir in each pot and it can draw up what it needs.
“The good thing about this system is that if you don’t like the plants you can just swap them around.”
Speaking after the programme was aired, Rick said: “I have worked with the programme in the past and know the producer and cast reasonably well.
“We’ve been in discussions for a while and were waiting for the right garden to showcase it.
“Wonderwall supplies all of the plants and planters and I delivered them before they started filming.
“We are so proud that the focal point of the garden was the living walls.
“This project which was completed late last year looks fabulous and the living wall has many benefits other than just looking stunning.”
Wonderwall has a good reputation in the horticultural world, including winning best in show for a display with Dobbies Garden Centres at the Chelsea Flower Show last year.
With people looking to reduce their carbon footprint, the firm is trying to eliminate carbon dioxide and release more oxygen through the plants.
Its products can be used to plant both vegetables and fruit as well as floral delights.
