A 19-year-old horse rider from Chatburn, near Clitheroe, had the best success of her career in 1979, when she beat 30 others over tough dressage and cross-country courses at the Chatsworth horse trials in Derbyshire.
Shirley Jackson, who had been a horse fanatic since she was a little, came first in her section in one of the hardest trials in the country.
