MOTORISTS are facing heavy delays after a car crashed into the central reservation on the A56 near Rising Bridge.
The incident happened at 3.22pm on the northbound section of the carriageway, heading towards Tesco.
A North West Ambulance Service spokesman said a person is being treated at the scene for face and leg injuries.
The spokesman said: "One ambulance was called to the scene, near Syke Street, at 15.16pm.
"The patient is still being treated at the scene."
One lane is set to be closed until 8.15pm tonight while repairs to the barrier are carried out.
A Highways England spokesman said normal traffic will resume by around 9pm.
Police are at the scene and have reported a huge build up of traffic.
Public transport users have been told to expect delays.
A Rosso spokesman Tweeted: "Due to an accident on the A56, near Rising Bridge, we are seeing delays to our 464 and the Red Express. Sorry for any inconvenience caused."
