A LITTLE girl who has been undergoing gruelling cancer treatment was allowed home from hospital in time for Christmas Day.
Ten-year-old Lucy Wright, who has the childhood cancer, neuroblastoma, underwent major surgery at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital on December 17, to remove a tumour.
Her parents Carrie and Richard Wright had been hoping to have their daughter back home for Christmas Day, but were unsure it would happen, as 48 hours after her operation, the youngster still had a chest drain in to help remove air from her lungs.
And by Sunday, the family, from Great Harwood, were pretty sure they would be spending Christmas in hospital. However, on Monday afternoon, doctors said brave Lucy would be able to leave, and celebrate Christmas at home.
Mrs Wright said: “It’s been a long six days. She’s had seven hours in surgery having a thoracotomy resulting in the successful removal of her tumour, physio, six x-rays and now removal of the nasty chest drain, but she’s back, and tonight we will be heading home just in time for Christmas.” Lucy is now due to fly to Michigan, USA, for more treatment.
