FORMER Labour MP for Birmingham Yardley Jess Phillips was out campaigning in Hyndburn on Monday with the party's candidate Graham Jones.
They went on a walkabout in Accrington town centre before meeting party members and knocking on doors with local canvassers.
Mr Jones said: "It was great to have Jess Phillips here. She went down brilliantly with voters especially women voters who want to see strong female voices. She is one of the most down to earth politicians we have."
Mrs Phillips said: "I know that in areas like this without a Labour government people here will continue to be let down. I have seen today what nine years of Tory government can do."
